Mikkola Concrete & Masonry Inc · Cokato, MN

A concrete shop on US-12, not a sales office.

MCM Concrete is the working name of Mikkola Concrete & Masonry Inc, run by Hans Mikkola out of Cokato. We have poured driveways, sidewalks, floors, patios, and foundations for homeowners, farmers, builders, and small commercial owners in Wright County for 25+ years. Our yard, our crew, and most of our trucks start the day right here.

Ride-on power trowel finishing a pole barn floor

What we do

Concrete and masonry, start to finish. The work splits roughly into three kinds of jobs. Flatwork: driveways, sidewalks, steps, patios, and the aprons and approaches that tie them together. Foundations: footings, poured walls, ICF walls, and block, for new homes, additions, shops, and pole buildings. Floors: garage, shop, basement, and pole building slabs, trowel finished, often over in-floor heat tubing.

We do not sub the pouring out. The crew that sets the forms is the crew that finishes the slab and comes back if something needs a look. One contact, one invoice.

How we bid

We walk the site before we quote it. The soil around here changes from one lot to the next: glacial till on the high ground, heavier and wetter in the low spots near the lakes and river bottoms. Where the ground needs more base or a different approach, we adjust the estimate rather than promise a number that will not hold. The estimate is written, and it is the number you pay unless excavation shows us something new.

We will also tell you which permit office your job falls under before you fill anything out. Inside Cokato city limits that is Cokato City Hall. Out in the townships it is usually Wright County Planning and Zoning in Buffalo. Driveways that connect to a county highway need a separate access permit through the county highway department.

What we will not do

  • Pour on frozen ground, or skip the blankets on a late-season pour to save a day.
  • Set a slab on black dirt or loose fill. Topsoil comes out and compacted Class 5 goes in, every time.
  • Stop a footing above the 42-inch frost depth or in disturbed soil.
  • Print a price before we have stood on the lot.

Where we work

Wright County first. Cokato, Dassel, Howard Lake, Annandale, Buffalo, and Delano see the trucks most weeks, and we run regularly to Litchfield, Hutchinson, Monticello, and St. Cloud. Builder and remodel work takes us into the west metro, Maple Grove, Plymouth, and Minnetonka, on a steady basis. There is no travel line on quotes for the towns along the corridor. See the service areas for the town-by-town detail.
